Founded in 2012, Lake Effect Quartet strives to create fun and harmony for audiences throughout northeast Wisconsin. The group chose their name because everyone knows it’s “cooler near the lake” and they believe they provide some cool music for their audiences. We hope you agree!
Lake Effect has performed for audiences from large corporate events to church services, at nursing homes, family gatherings, and community programs. They also look forward to delivering singing telegrams and Singing Valentines.
Singing Tenor for the group is Paul Blair. Paul has been singing in organized groups and choirs since he was in second grade and has been a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society since 1991. He has sung with the Green Bay chapter in the past where he has served as both Director and President. Paul is proud that his son Mike continues the barbershop tradition singing with the Appleton chapter. Paul and his wife Mary live in Green Bay.
Anthony Schreiter sings Lead for Lake Effect. He also enjoys playing several different musical instruments, which explains his awesome pitch-piping skills. Anthony is a Manitowoc native and lives here with his wife Julie. When he isn’t singing, he works as an Academic Advisor for Franklin University. In his free time, he enjoys bicycling and woodworking. One thing is certain; Anthony’s unique sense of humor guarantees that quartet practice is never boring.
If you ever hear someone singing a really odd tune a little too loudly around town, it’s probably Don Lewellen practicing one of his Baritone parts. He joined the quartet in 2015, after retiring as an eye surgeon. He lives in Manitowoc with Ellen, his wife of 45 years. They enjoy biking on their tandem, woodworking, and fly fishing whenever possible. His son Peter joined the Chordsmen in 2021.
Bruce Schlei now sings Bass with the quartet. He brings a quarter century of barbershop quartet experience to the group with his deep and mellow voice. Bruce joins Lake Effect after singing for many years with the quartet, Cool Street. His depth of musical knowledge is a huge asset for the group. Bruce currently works at Newton Meat Market and can “steer” you toward some great steaks if you are interested. He lives in Cleveland with Barb, his patient and understanding wife.
